Portugal
Akbar Saiyad
Captain
Age: 55
Captain. The doyen of Portuguese cricket and this will be his 7th campaign as national captain. Belying his years, Akbar continues to accumulate runs with aplomb and has already notched up 2 half-centuries in the Lisbon league this season.
Torben Rankine
Age:27
His elegant left-hand opening batting style has been a hallmark of Portuguese cricket for several seasons. An excellent cover fielder, his enthusiasm and encouragement have a marked effect on the side's overall performance in the field.
Ramesh Bagvane
Age:37
One of Portugal's most accomplished batsman, he has been a permanent fixture in the national squad since 1993. Exhibited his class by taking the man-of-the-match award in Portugal's dramatic win over Israel at the 2000 ECC Championships with a faultless batting performance and a spell of economical off-spin bowling
Jitesh Balkrishna
Age:33
Recalled to the national side after 3 years having last represented Portugal at the ECC Trophy in Corfu in 1999. A medium pace right arm bowler he also bats in the middle order with often devastating effect.
Paulo Buccimazza
Age:20
Had a spell at Lord's as a trainee and invitee of the ECDO in 2001 and earlier this year attended the first European Academy in Spain. His batting technique and application have impressed many and there is optimism that he can convert success at league level into similar success at international level. As a cover point fielder he is unrivalled in Portugal and will doubtless shine in Belfast as well.
Nadeem Butt
Age:29
The Portuguese squad practice with a bowling machine but they also possess a veritable batting machine in the shape of Butt who, last year, scored over 1000 runs in local league matches.
Edward Chambers
Age:22
Oporto's only representative in the squad. Rapidly developing into a genuine all-rounder, Ed is capable of bowling his right arm seamers at a lively pace for long spells but when concentrated into a short bursts he has the potential to be devastating. His aggressive and pugnacious batting coupled with his swiftness of foot between the wickets ensures a steadily ticking scoreboard.
Hussein Cheema
Age:29
An all rounder who hits the ball with tremendous power, he also bowls a teasing mixture of medium pace seamers and off-cutters which bring him regular hauls in the Lisbon league. His fielding skills are legendary and he has the amazing knack of popping up at the right place to pouch important catches.
Mohammad Nazir Usman
Age:29
Dinesh Maughi
Age:28
A stalwart of the Portuguese side for several seasons, his hostile pace bowling has earned him a reputation as a feared opponent. As a lower order bat, he is capable of knocking up quick runs at the end of an innings and it is an unwitting or foolhardy batsman who attempts to take an extra run when Dinesh is about to throw in from the deep.
Intesab Mehdi
Age:29
Another regular in the Portuguese squad, appearing for the 6th time. His solid batting has often been the saviour of his side and his artful and parsimonious off-breaks have kept Europe's best batsmen quiet. His nomination as Player of the Tournament in the B Section of the ECC Championships in 2000 and again in the ECC Trophy in Vienna in 2001 attests to his undisputed ability.
Camlesh Ramchande
Age:33
Another ever present in the squad. Business commitments have prevented him from making as many appearances on the cricket fields of Portugal as he would have liked this season. On those occasions when he has bent his back and turned his arm over, he has shown that he has lost none of the pace that earned him the nickname of Ôstump snapper'.
Humayun Shahzad
Age:34
Appearing for the fourth time for Portugal in European competitions. A stylish right hand bat who severely punishes any loose bowling, he is another in the genuine all-rounder class with his right arm medium pace and lightning reflexes in the field.
