Kamua Leverock's brilliant 137 looks destined to send Jersey tumbling back to Division Five as they went down by 85 runs to Bermuda.
Opener Leverock struck 10 fours cleared the ropes 8 times in his 111 ball innings, sharing a mammoth opening stand of 211 with Oliver Pitcher (63) to ensure Bermuda assumed control of the crucial contest.
The record partnership was eventually ended by Charles Perchard (3-45) but a series of breezy cameos by Dion Stovell (20), Janeiro Tucker (19) and Tre Manders (17) kept the momentum going for Bermuda who finished on an imposing 312 for 8 in the 45 over contest.
A daunting target became even more difficult as Peter Gough (0) and Jonty Jenner (6) both fell early in the reply.
Nat Watkins hit 8 fours in an entertaining 44 from 39 balls, but that was to be the story of the day as the middle order all got in but out too quickly as scoreboard pressure told.
Corey Bisson blitzed 48 from 23 balls (5 fours, 3 sixes) while there were more sedate cameos from Tony Hawkins-Kay (34), Harry Carlyon (32) and William Harris (20).
Jersey were eventually dismissed for 227, with Cejay Outerbridge having the excellent analysis of 5 for 25.
The damaging margin of the defeat means that Jersey's fate is now out of their hands. They need to not only beat top of the table USA in Thursday's final group games, but also hope that Italy can beat Bermuda and that the NRR calculations fall in their favour.
