Rory Anders brilliant unbeaten 64 led Lightning Bolts to a hard-fought four-wicket win against their NCU counterparts - the Emerging Knights - at OakHill to level the unofficial series at one apiece.

Anders hit 4 fours and 2 sixes in his 64 from 81 balls as the Bolts overcame a poor start to chase down 183 with five balls to spare of the 45-over contest.

Lisburn seamer Mark Berry removed high profile openers Jack Tector and Jamie Grassi to give the young Knights the early advantage, but Lorcan Tucker (48) and Gareth Delany (22) soon has the Bolts back in the game.

Curtis Moorehead (2-31) removed Delany and Danny Hogan in consecutive balls as the contest ebbed and flowed.

Further wickets for Marcus Topping (2-32) kept things interesting, but Harry Tector's 21 and Anders cool head saw the hosts emerge winners in a thrilling game.

In the Knights innings John Matchett underlined his burgeoning reputation with a flowing 69 (4 fours, 2 sixes) as they posted 183 for 9.

James McCollum and Jamie Holmes both chipped in with 20 apiece, but Pembroke leg-spinner Fiachra Tucker's 3-23 threatened to derail the Knights innings as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Carrickfergus all-rounder Alex Haggan's late salvo of four sixes in an entertaining 36 ensured a competitive total, with Gareth Delany, Tom Stanton and Tom Anders all picked up a brace.

The series saw two great games between the younger representative players from each of the Unions.

The Knights and Lightning coaches Simon Johnston and Albert van der Merwe have already indicated that they regard this kind of fixture as vital to player development and something that should be repeated. No doubt the success of the games so far will ensure their continuation in the future.
