Carrickfergus will play in their first ever NCU Challenge Cup Final on Friday after they defeated Lisburn 3-2 in a bowl-out at Middle Road.
Sunday’s game between the teams was washed out at halfway, with Lisburn having scored 269 for seven in just 45 overs and with the Carrick ground still unplayable for the final attempt they were condemned to the lottery of a bowl-out.
Michael Rippon and Jake Egan hit for Carrick in the first five to cancel out strikes by Faiz Fazal and Josh Manley but Michael Armstrong hit with his second ball, the 14th of the bowl-out, to give Carrick their dream prize.
The Faughan Valley Cup final, between Brigade and Killyclooney, also fell victim to the weather and it was impossible even to hold a bowl-out to decide the North West team who will host Balbriggan in Sunday’s All-Ireland T20 Cup semi-final.
That will take place in the next 48 hours although the actual final will be replayed at a later date to decide the cup winners.
