Woodvale missed the chance to extend to their lead at the top of the Premiership table after a five-wickets loss at Cliftonville Academy. Rory Bessell claimed four wickets as the Ballygomartin Road side slumped to 56 for 6 and 103 for 9, but got up to 160 thanks to a last wicket stand of 57 between Jamie Gibson and James Martin as well as the boost of 35 extras. The hosts were in trouble as they slipped to 56 for four in the reply, but a half century from professional Abishek Raut and 40 from Jared Wilson in a fifth wicket stand of 89 saw them home. They now join Muckamore and Waringstown on 24 points, the trio breathing down the necks of Woodvale who remain on 28.

Carrickfergus flew in former South African professional Jacques Snyman on a one-off basis for their clash with CIYMS at Belmont, but it was Ross Adair who stole the show. The Irish international clubbed six sixes and six fours in a top score of 72 from just 32 balls – taking 26 alone off the second over of the day bowled by the unfortunate Prince Sharma. He dominated an opening stand of 85 in just 7.2 overs with Chris Dougherty, who was content to play second fiddle on his way to 65 as the hosts posted 274 for eight. Carson McCullough claimed four wickets in the chase, including the prize scalp of Snyman for 15, as Carrick were bowled out for 180 and now see themselves bottom of the table, behind CIYMS on Nett Run Rate.

Instonians had a welcome win as they proved too strong for CSNI at Shaw’s Bridge. Former New Zealand U19 international Marc Ellison’s 57 was the best of the Stormont’s side 223, with James Lambert picking up four wickets. Rain meant an adjusted target of 173 in 35 overs, but ‘Inst’ didn’t have to get out of second gear thanks to an unbeaten 52 from Robert McKinley, who shared an opening stand of 72 with Ollie Metcalfe (46), while Irish international Neil Rock cleared the ropes four times in his 22-ball 45.
