Dutch seamer Maurits Jonkman has been ruled out of the World Cricket League Division 1 tournament because of a persistent injury, and will be replaced in the squad for the remaining two matches by his 31-year-old, South African-born clubmate at HCC, Bernard Loots (pictured right, bowling in an A team fixture against France last month).
Loots, who has taken 82 wickets for HCC since joining the club in 2006, has been a member of the A squad since the beginning of the season, and has been included in the Dutch party to take part in the European Championships in Jersey next week.
His call-up for the World Cricket League ends a frustrating period for Maurits Jonkman, who has not been fit to play in any of his side's four matches so far. His twin brother Mark, one of the undoubted successes of the Dutch side this year, has been the spearhead of the attack, but Maurits has been forced to watch from the sidelines, and has now lost his battle to get fit in time to play some part.
Loots will join Mudassar Bukhari, Mark Jonkman and Brad Kruger as the fourth seamer available to coach Peter Drinnen as the Dutch go into their final round-robin match against Ireland on Friday and the play-off for third and fourth places - against either Scotland or Afghanistan - on Saturday.
