Isle of Man made it two wins out of two at the European Under 17B Championships with an emphatic 93 runs victory over Switzerland to top Group B after two matches.
Openers Adam McAuley and Carl Wagstaffe, who put on 91 in the opening day success against Germany, again gave the hosts a solid start with 58 and an unbeaten 81 from Ryan Burns took his side to 204 for seven after their 40 overs.
Switzerland reached 47 for two after 15 overs but then lost four wickets for four runs and only a defiant 41 by Harry Vines held up the islanders. He was ninth out in the last over and the last pair hung on to bat out the overs.
A run out ended the opening partnership, a direct hit by Ross Cameron leaving McAuley short of his ground, but Wagstaffe went on to make 40 before he was leg before at the end of the 17th over with the total on 72.
The rest of the innings belonged to Burns who faced just 68 balls and hit nine fours to get Isle of Man past 200. Only three Swiss bowlers took a wicket with Midhun Lal Sandhya taking two late on to finish with three for 33.
Isle of Man captain Daniel Hawke took a wicket with the first ball of his second over - the Swiss failed to score off the first three overs - and Switzerland were immediately on the back foot. The decisive overs came either side of drinks when Seb Aycock took three wickets in four overs and, along with a run-out by Andrew Vels, then only the margin of victory was in doubt.
Hawke returned to take two more wickets, including Vines to finish with the impressive figures of three for nine from just six overs. The hosts face a tricky game against Spain tomorrow but will now be confident of completing two more victories to ensure their place in the final.
