Isle of Man’s young team continue to grow in stature with every match and they completed a third straight win with a 60 runs victory over Spain at St John’s
Spain were the unknown quantity coming into this tournament, having missed last year’s Under 15 tournament in Bologna, and when they reduced the hosts to 53 for four, they were on top. But a fifth wicket stand of 102 between Rowan Bird, who made exactly 50, and Shaun Kelly, who finished 39 not out, helped the Isle of Man to 165 for six at the end of their 40 overs.
The Spaniards also started the second innings promisingly, putting on 28 for the first wicket in just seven overs but after the next seven overs, they were 42 for four and the Isle of Man refused to let go. Seb Aycock took three of the first five wickets, including top scorer Charlie Cook for 21 and by the end all six bowlers had taken at least one wicket.
The last five wickets added only 36 runs and Ross Burns came on to end the match with his second ball in the 34th over.
