Northern Knights Coach Eugene Moleon Reflects on his Team's Narrow Defeat
Barry Chambers: Eugene you must be disappointed. It felt like you had the game in the bag there?
Eugene Moleon (Northern Knights Coach): I'm not saying we had the game in the bag. I thought we fought back from the start that they got. They started really well. And the boys showed a lot of bottle then in the middle parts of that game. And yeah needing two wickets with fifty odd needed, we thought we were the driving seat.
But once you get to this level, that's what this level is all about. It's the small things. We had a few chances, and if you don't take your chances you get punished, even at this level. And this is what Cricket Ireland want, and it's a good level, and people now know, and the boys in the dressing room know what they need to do, and the level that they need to go at.
Barry Chambers: I suppose you could never relax with somebody like Kevin O'Brien there, you know exactly what he's capable of?
Eugene Moleon: Yes Kevin is capable of taking the game away singlehandedly, which he did, and all due respect to Kevin, I thought he batted really well there, scored a ton in a pressure situation. I thought he really did excellently.
But look I want to say, hats off to my boys as well. I thought they fought really hard. I think the conditions favoured the team batting second there. But still I think we showed a lot of character out there.
And there is a lot of things for us to build on. It's the first game of the series. We would have loved to have started with a win. To go all the way down to the last over, you know, I think the boys did really well, and a lot to work on.
Barry Chambers: You went into the game serious underdogs, had you maybe something to prove there?
Eugene Moleon: Yeah look, people will give people, people give teams the underdog or ok they're the favourites. You know we just go out there and play. Yes they have a side, Leinster has got a strong side with Irish players, and the North West have got a strong side too, they've got serious bowlers up there. So we've got up our game, but we can just concentrate on what we've got to do, and work to our strengths and plan for that.
