Late Partnership with Great Mate Albie Leaves Poynter and Leinster Lightning Happy

Leinster Lightning and Clontarf's aggressive batsman Andrew Poynter enjoyed his key last wicket partnership with his great mate Albert van der Merwe. A stand which leaves The Lightning in great shape going in to Day 3.

Barry Chambers: Andrew well batted today, you put Leinster in a very strong position?

Andrew Poynter (Leinster Lightning): Thanks very much, yeah I think everyone chipped in. We played pretty well. The Warriors bowled pretty well with that second new ball, so it was nice to get through that, and put on a bit of a partnership with one of me good mates Albie (Albert van der Merwe). So it was good fun.

Barry Chambers: Yeah and that last wicket partnership, really the North West were in with a bit of a shout, but it really seemed to knock the stuffing out of them?

Andrew Poynter: Yeah like always a last wicket partnership, the longer it goes on, the more energy you take out of the opposition. So we just kept each other going, whenever one of us had a lapse, we just picked up the other bloke, and just kept going and going, and I think Albie was a bit unlucky at the end. So I think he was looking for fifty.

Barry Chambers: But Max there at the end, fantastic short spell just to give you a real boost?

Andrew Poynter: Fantastic, I think the lads were a bit nervous facing him. He bowled pretty quick today, and a few hostile bumpers as well. So it's always good having him fired up for three or four overs at the end. And Eddie as well, just bowling line and length, and nipping it around. It's a fantastic opening partnership we have.

Barry Chambers:  But the North West bat pretty deep, so they'll still have hopes maybe of salvaging a draw, it's not going to be easy for you tomorrow to get that win?

Andrew Poynter: Definitely not, and they showed it in the first innings, sort of seven, eight, nine, ten, I think all bat in the top order for clubs, so we're going to have to work hard to get these remaining eight wickets. But hopefully we can come out and knock a few over early, and make the job a bit easier, but we'll be keeping going until we get all ten wickets, and hopefully won't have to chase many, if at all. But we'll be here ready go again.
