Who said three-day cricket is boring? The first-ever Interpro Championship game ended in a nail-biting finish in Trinity College last night as Leinster Lightning's bid to beat the Warriors ended on the last ball.

Just 26 were needed off four overs, but five wickets tumbled as Peter Connell and Johnny Thompson bowled tight lines as the fielders ringed the boundary.

And the Lightning batsmen panicked in the dusk, falling three runs short.

The home side will bitterly regret some unwelcome drops - both of the "rain" and "butterfingers" variety. The number of chances spilled in the match reached double figures and the weather finally disrupted play on day 3.

Max Sorensen had blown away the North West top order to leave them 68-5, but again the impressive Andrew Riddles marshaled the tail which burned off the overs and ended those crucial 25 runs ahead.
