McBrine Shining Light as NW Warriors Disappoint Against Rampant Leinster Lightning
A disappointed North West Warriors Coach Bobby Rao agreed his Warriors were outplayed in all three disciplines by the Leinster Lightning. He singled out Lightning's destructive batsman Kevin O'Brien for praise. He vowed his young team who are on a steep learning curve, will regroup and work harder.
Barry Chambers: Bobby, a pretty disappointing result?
Bobby Rao (North West Warriors Coach): It's really disappointing. We were outplayed in all three departments. Peter Connell's injury in the second over was a big blow. You know we took a chance and brought him here, but it didn't work out.
But still we could have batted better than how we batted. I think from the thirtieth over to the forty seventh over we were in the race, but the last three overs, nearly fifty runs, that killed us.
Obviously Kevin is a world class one day international player, you can't drop him. So that cost us over forty runs. But we are a young side and we are learning. I know it's tough, but we have to work harder and harder as the competition goes on. But we'll try and give it our best shot. We'll work hard and do what we can, you know.
Barry Chambers: You got yourselves back into the game, Andrew McBrine getting three wickets, bowled really well. But as you say those last few overs were a killer.
Bobby Rao: I mean you can't drop Kevin, you know him, he done it against Pakistan, England, and he did it in the last one day game against the Northern Knights. I went and watched that game, I knew, I was just dreading that, and he's developed into a class player, and you can't take it away from him.
Again it's a learning curve for us, and we're going to build on that, we learn by our mistakes, and hopefully we will work hard, that's the best thing.
Barry Chambers: Yes you've a match on Tuesday, a three day game, who are you going to bring in instead of Peter Connell - Kmaran Sajid perhaps?
Bobby Rao: I have to talk to the Selectors Peter Gillespie and the others, to see whether we want to bring another professional in.
