Leinster Lightning continued their domination of the inter-provincial championship on the opening day of the three-day game against the Northern Knights at College Park.

Half centuries from John Anderson, Stuart Poynter, continuing where he left off against Australia A last week, and captain Kevin O'Brien helped the home side finish on 364 and then dismissed the NCU's two current international batsmen, James Shannon and Andrew White, in the eight overs before the close. The Knights, for whom Johnny Terrett was unable to open the innings because he pulled his hamstring, need another 195 to avoid the follow-on.

An encouraging start for the Knights, who took three wickets for 34 in the first 13 overs, was halted by a skilful 86 from 156 balls by Anderson, one of nine internationals in the Lightning side which included six of the probable team that will face the Netherlands in the Intercontinental Cup game next week.
