Classy Knight's Opener Chris Dougherty Shows How It's Done With Super Batting Display
While all around him seemed at sea, Northern Knight's Opener Chris Dougherty put in a Trojan effort in front of the Irish Management and Selectors. Utilising his plan to bat sessions he took the fight to the Lightning Attack.
Barry Chambers: Chris a pretty mammoth batting effort on your part, but it looks as if it's going to be in vain?
Chris Dougherty: It was good to get out in the middle and bat for some time. We had all day to bat, and hopefully, you know, the lads tomorrow can sort of hang around a bit and keep Leinster in the field for a bit longer.
Barry Chambers: What's the key to your game, why were you able to do it and the rest of them weren't?
Chris Dougherty: I think it's just application, and I went out there and tried to bat sessions. I think you've got to try and leave as much as possible outside the off stump, and sort of have a few shots that are your areas and that you want to score off. I think I just sort of concentrated on that.
Barry Chambers: And you've played quite a bit of multi day cricket before, and it showed, you played with, was it Bradford?
Chris Dougherty: Leeds Bradford. Yes I've played a lot of cricket with them and with the Ireland A Team, so I've been playing that for a good few years now, so I know how to play the game. It's just all about batting time and patience.
Barry Chambers:Yes, and with Phil Simmons watching you haven't got a full Ireland cap yet, you've came close a few times, been in the squad. Is that an ambition, this tournament gives a showcase for that?
Chris Dougherty: Yeah I've been twelfth man a few times, but I'd love to get my full cap. I think that's what everyone plays the game for, to play for your country. So if that ever happened it would be the best day of my cricketing career, so it's a main ambition for me.
