In one of three matches played in Christchurch, Hong Kong recorded a two-run victory over Kenya at Christ's College despite an unbeaten knock of 130 from Kenya opener Irfan Karim. The side posted 242 for nine following 69 from Mark Chapman, while Babar Hayat added a quick-fire 46. For Kenya, Elijah Otieno and Ragheb Aga took two wickets apiece.
Kenya's response started slowly, with Karim setting the pace, striking nine fours and one six on the way to 130 not out. Rakep Patel added 49 runs, but the side was not able to maintain the required run rate, and reached 240 from its 50 overs with four wickets in hand. Irfan Ahmed was the key wicket-taker for Hong Kong, claiming three for 32.
In other matches of the day, the UAE defeated Uganda by 73 runs at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, after posting a commanding total of 280 from its 50 overs. Half centuries by Shaiman Anwar (59) and skipper Khurram Khan (56 retired) were the corner stone of the innings. In response, Uganda posted 207 for five to fall 73 runs short of victory. Abram Ndhlovu Mutyagaba top scored with 76 (retired).
Namibia recorded a four run victory over Nepal at Burwood Park, Christchurch, with Louis Klazinga claiming the wickets of top-scorers Binod Bhandari (65) and Basant Regmi (39) within two overs to dismiss Nepal for 227, after Nicolass Scholtz (79) and Stephan Baard (73) led Namibia to a total of 231 for nine.
