Scotland's young cricketers got their U19 World Cup campaign off to the perfect start when they recorded a six wicket win against Papua New Guinea in Dubai.

Three wickets apiece from skipper Ross McLean (3-15) and Chayank Gosain (3-17) ensured Scotland were always in the ascendancy, and they were never to relinquish their grip on the contest.

Papua New Guinea were skittled for just 108, with Kiplin Doriga their top scorer with a modest 19.

The other Scottish wicket takers in an impressive all-round display were Mark Watt (2-23), Abdul Sabri (1-16) and Gavin Main (1-26).

There was a slight wobble in the run chase as Andrew Umeed (5), Ross McLean (3) and Michael English (10) all fell cheaply, to give PNG some hope at 24 for 3.

However that hope was quickly snuffed out as Zander Muir (39*) shared stands of 53 with Nick Farrar (26) and an unbroken 33 with Kyle Stirling (17*) to lead Scotland to a comfortable win.

Scotland are back in action on Monday when they face the challenge of India, a game which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
