PETER GOUGH played a captain's innings as Jersey survived a late wobble to win the European derby against Italy in a game reduced to 40 overs per side.
Gough's 61 proved the perfect platform as Jersey chased down Itlay's 147 to win with three wickets and overs to spare.
The 29 year-old played a composed innings, striking 6 boundaries in his 61 from 92 deliveries.
His dismissal at 123 for 2, saw Italy fight back taking five quick wickets, but it was too little, too late as Jersey held their nerve to complete the win.
Nat Watkins (23), Ben Stevens (17), and Jonty Jenner (15) all supported Gough, as they negated the early Italian threat to set up the win.
Earlier, Italian skipper Damian Crowley had top scored with 44 as Italy disappointed with their below par score of 147.
There were two wickets apiece for Nat Watkins, Ben Stevens, and Charles Perchard in a disciplined bowling display by the Channel Islanders which sets up a fascinating encounter with Denmark tomorrow.
