Denmark have inched closer to promotion to Division 3 of the World Cricket League today after a 134 run win over Channel Islanders Jersey at the Padang ground in Singapore.
Batting first after captain Michael Pedersen won the toss, Denmark started their innings well with an opening partnership of 93 between Zameer Khan and Freddie Klokker, which ended when the former was out for 30. Klokker and Pedersen then put on 56 for the second wicket.
Left arm spinner Nat Watkins then took three wickets in four balls in the 31st over to briefly put Denmark on the back foot, but they recovered thanks to some steady batting from their lower middle order.
Klokker was eventually out for 80, and Denmark went on to score 270 before they were bowled out one ball short of their quota of 50 overs. Nat Watkins finished with 4-49.
Jersey's reply started reasonably with Peter Gough and Ed Farley putting on 46 for the first wicket, but that was the only partnership of any substance in their innings. Gough's 33 and a knock of 29 by Ben Stevens were the only scores in their innings over 20.
Some tight bowling from Denmark kept the scoring rate down, and Jersey were eventually bowled out for 136 in 39 overs. Basit Raja was the pick of the Danish bowlers with 3-26.
Tomorrow is a rest day and Denmark will be back in action on Friday, knowing that a win over Italy will almost secure promotion to Division 3. Jersey, meanwhile, will need a win over hosts Singapore - and have other results go their way - if they're to avoid relegation back to Division Five.
