In Saturday's semis, the Saints made 201 against
A good batting performance saw Valkyres reach 159 for 7 at Tromode. Auri Ghausi cracked a lively 49 before being run out in the last over. Opener Chris Langford hit an important 30 while Ehtasham Ahmed and Jawad Rajbut both made 13.
Matt Ansell was back from University for his first match of the season. He bowled eight very tight overs to concede only eleven runs. There were two wickets for Nick Wild and one for Luke Lacey.
Needing 160 for victory, Cronkbourne lost an early wicket. Then Max Stokoe took control and had cracked an exciting 38 before Tom Reader trapped him lbw.
Valkyres quickly took two more wickets and at 67 for 4 the match was in the balance. Cronkbourne were behind the required run rate and looked vulnerable.
They were rescued by an outstanding partnership between Rowan Bird and Sam Mills. Batting cautiously at first, they gradually got on top of the bowling. The pair had an unbroken stand of 93 to take their side through to the Tinker final.
Bird finished on an excellent 59 not out while Mills gave good support with 24 not out. This was a gripping cup tie with plenty of tension and fine play.
