Andrew White, Roy Torrens, Kyle McCallan and John KerstensLion Sports presented a new annual achievement award and the winners were the Ireland cricket team for their outstanding season when they qualified for the 2007 World Cup and also won the Intercontinental Cup.

Sponsor John Kerstens presented the special award to Ireland Team Manager Roy Torrens, and the men of the final against Kenya, Kyle McCallan and Andrew White.

The Northern Cricket Union scooped the top spots in this year’s Lion Sports Team and Player of the Year awards.

The team of the year is North Down and the players’ award was won by Bangor all-rounder Regan West.

North Down captain Peter Shields and John Kerstens North Down won two cups – the Newry and Down Democrat Challenge Cup and the inaugural Lion Sports Tewnty20 trophy – and were joint winners of the Ulster Bank Senior League title with Waringstown.

Runners-up were Waringstown and Fox Lodge who won the North West Division 2 title, the Samuel Jeffery Shield and were beaten finalists in the White Horse Ulster Shield.

Regan West won the players award with 907 runs at an average of 82.45 and 24 wickets at an average of 20.75. Limavady’s Decker Curry (828 runs, average 55.20 and 24 wickets, average 19.16) and Freddie van der Burgh (1030 runs average 64.38) were runners up.

West also picked up the monthly award for June during which he scored a total of 390 runs – including two centuries – for an average of 195. The other monthly awards also went to NCU players - in July Johnny Terrett of Cliftonville scored a century against Downpatrick in the semi-final of the Senior Cup and two half centuries and in August Stuart Kidd of Waringstown took 16 wickets at an average of 11.14 including 7-13 against Derriaghy.

Regan West and John KerstensThe monthly team awards went to Ballyspallen in June for five league wins out of five; Brigade with five wins out of six in July and in August to North Down for winning the NCU Senior Cup and sharing the league.
